David Yates does it again

Tonight we saw Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It was just as I'd expected, a very good, dark film that followed the book in the essence, but not the excruciating detail - and just as well as the book was long and tiresome, whereas the film was much easier to follow. If you've seen and liked Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, this one won't disappoint you either. David Yates, once again, comes up trumps.

These are some of my favourite quotes from the movie (compliments of writer Steve Kloves):

Harry Potter: How do I look?
Luna Lovegood: Exceptionally ordinary.

Minerva McGonagall: Mr. Davis! Mr. Davis, that is the girls' lavatory.

Minerva McGonagall: Potter, take Weasley with you. He looks far too happy over there.

Minerva McGonagall: Why is it that whenever something happens, you three are always involved?
Ron Weasley: Believe me, professor, I've been asking myself that for the last six years.

Luna Lovegood: I've never been to this part of the castle. Well, not awake. I sleepwalk, you see. That's why I wear shoes to bed.

Horace Slughorn: Exactly how did you get out of the castle, Harry?
Harry Potter: Through the front door, sir.

Ron Weasley: I'm in love with her!
Harry Potter: Alright. Fine. You're in love with her. Have you ever actually met her?
Ron Weasley: No. Can you introduce me?

Ron Weasley: So, did you and Ginny do it?

However, none of these is as good as my favourite Snape quote from the Order of the Phoenix. This one still makes me laugh today:

Unless you wish to poison Potter - and I assure you I would have the greatest sympathy with you if you did - I cannot help you.

Classic Snape. Heh.

Reminds me of days gone by at school. Missing the police series on Saturday night resulted in one being totally out of the loop on Monday as *everyone* had been watching that one single channel we had on the tube.

And now, not having followed these films... Did I miss anything? :)

I'm assuming you've not read the books. If you've read the books, you've missed the opportunity to see them come to life. The Harry Potter films are the only book adaptations I can think of that have brought the book's story alive, rather that creating a hollywood-ised version of the original story or a different story to keep cinema audiences happy.

If you've not read the books, well, it depends on how much you like adventures and if you object to reading books primarily aimed at teenagers :-)

Love, love, love the Harry Potter Movies. We're all fans in our family. I haven't got around to seeing the sixth movie yet, but I've read all the books.

I love Snape...he's so sarcastic!

@ Puss-in-Boots: Without a doubt, Snape rocks! He's my favourite character after Sirius Black.

@ Gattina: Awww you don't know what you're missing :-)

@ RennyBA: I'm not surprised - I went on a Monday, in the third week it was out, and the cinema was packed. I hate to think what it was like in the first few days!

That's correct. So I guess it's fair to say that I'm a bit behind on this particular issue... Lots of Isaac Asimov and Douglas Adams on my bookshelves to I don't think I'd object to adventures or books aimed at teenagers. Then again, there are many different kinds of adventures.

@ Fifi Flowers: But that's what cinema is for - escaping from the mad rush or real life!

@ Per Stromsjo: I reckon you should give Harry Potter a try. I don't even like fantasy and I loved HP, so there you go. Just be patient with the first book, it's really slow and childish to start with (but it does improve half way through).
