After London... Rio de Janeiro!

In case you've not heard, Brazil will become the first South American country to host the Olympics after Rio de Janeiro was chosen to stage the 2016 Games. Parabéns Brazil!

I was kind of rooting for Chicago, but I have to admit, I like it that the Olympics are moving to a new continent. After all, Europe and the US have had their turn several times already.

What do you guys think?

I LOVE that photo. What a beautiful place. Let's all meet at the Olympics!

This is a good development full of meanings and hidden purposes... Unfortunately, Olympic Games are part of international politics!!! Your blog is very interesting.

Quite happy it is in Rio. Somewhere totally different to what we are use to. Should be fantastic.

It's fine by me, except I hate the way Obama's right-wing hate-mongering enemies are making the decision into some sort of political failure on his part!

@ Karen: That would be great :-)

@ Phivos: Thank you! Not really sure what the hidden purposes might be though...

@ Kate: Yeah - can you imagine the starting and closing ceremonies? Samba, Capoeira, Lambada - that will be something to see!

@ Betty: For what it's worth, I respect Obama for supporting Chicago so openly - just as he should. I bet his enemies would hold it against him if he didn't and Chicago lost the Olympics. He can't win...

I was rooting for Tokyo but I really feel happy as well that the olympics will be held first time on a new continent!

And also, Rio de Janeiro is one of the places I would love to visit! Who knows I can watch there live on 2016! jajaja How I wish! Congratulations Rio!!!

@ Palmtreefanatic: Ahhh wish it was mine!

@ Steven: I've not been to Rio either. You knows, we might meet there in seven years' time ;-)

Both are far away, London is just around the corner for me. In 1 1/2 h I can be there with the Eurostar !
Re the Galleries in Brussels, there are three galleries. Galerie du Roi, and Galerie de la Reine and a little part is called Gallerie des Princes. And the whole thing together is called "Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert" So we are both right, lol !

BTW if you come to Brussels again, just let me know !

Very very pleased it's Rio - whilst I'm not an Olympics 'fan' I do agree that it shouldn't always be the more traditionally 'richer' countries.. seeing your photo brought back fond memories of my trip to Brazil. Beautiful contry that will hopefully benefit greatly from this event.
