The Reader out on DVD

You may remember that I told you about The Reader last February, when I watched it. Yesterday I saw this poster advertising the DVD and thought I'd post it as a reminder. If you didn't watch The Reader on the big screen, do pick up the DVD. Oscars wins and nominations aside, this was one of the best films of last year and it's well worth seeing. And yes, there's lots more to it than seeing Kate Winslett naked, irrespective of what the promo shots might have you think.

I have now also read the book by Bernhard Schlink that the film is based on. According to Wikipedia (fountain of all knowledge on the internet) The Reader became the first German novel to top the New York Times bestseller list, and Oprah Winfrey made it a selection of her book club in 1999. All I'll say is, I'm not surprised - it's one of the best books I've ever read. Highly recommended.

Kate Winslett! Now there's a woman with the kind of fertile body a gorilla admires!

i remember you gave this movie a fab review. must go out and buy it.

thanks for pointing out on my recent cafe post that in greece we can stay for a long time at the cafe sipping our coffee really slowly. My son didnt want to drink all his juice, so i asked the waitress to leave everything on the table just as it was, so i could pick up my daughter from her tennis lesson. when we returned, we went to the same table, my daughter drank the remaining juice, and we stayed at the park close to two hours.

@ Gorilla Bananas: She's very wholesome, isn't she? I like Kate Winslett.

@ Mediterranean Kiwi: Definitely. And the book too :-)

@ C'est la vie: Have you read the book?

Re: the pool - scary is putting it mildly!!

@ Trotter: Do check out the movie, I think you'll like it as they've kept pretty close to the book.

Good to know that Kate is not only naked, because if I want to see a naked woman I just look in the mirror, lol !
I haven't seen this filem.

Worry not, Kate being naked is the least important part of this movie :-)

Finished the book yesterday afternoon. I found that I couldn't plow through this one like I normally do. It deserved some consideration, and quite a bit of thought.

Am now ready for the movie!

Yes, it's definitely throught-provoking. I remember it took me a while to finish, although it's quite a thin book.
