I was surprised that there was that much Mardi Gras celebration in London. Good thing you tagged the photo, now it seems more logical.
Here in France it's irregular. Some towns and communities hold a "carnaval" for their schoolkids; some cities have big "carnavals", even nearby ones like Albi. I think it's mainly in the South-East that it's celebrated (Nice, etc.) Nothing much here in Rodez.

cool! I like it!
Hi Tinsie!
What a nice array of costumes for carnaval...I don't think most places celebrate Shrove Tuesday here (except for New Orleans and it's Mardi Gras).
Re: the pelican - we have lots of strange-looking birds and animals in Florida! :-)
We don't celebrate carnival in England either, and Shrove Tuesday is just pancake day.
I took this photo in Athens, Greece, where carnival is a major celebration spreading over three weeks.

Carnival is over only in Belgium they are busy in some towns til may ! Never understood that !
@ Betty: Alas, no Mardi Gras for us!
@ Gattina: Seems very sensible to me - making the joy last!
Oh that's such a nice picture, what a find!! surely you're tempted to have a fancy dress party now ;)
Gorgeous display!!
It would be great to be in the midst of a three week carnival season. Heck, I would take a one day celebration New Orleans style!
Great window. Where did you find it?
I took the photo during a recent trip to Athens.
I did think it didn't look like any window display in London (unless you count something like Selfridges!).
Really colourful!
This just reminded me the year that my sister and her best friend dressed up as Santas. With big sacks full of balloons. It was pretty hilarious.
