...went to work in black trousers and a navy-blue jacket yesterday?
Yep, it was me.
No, I wasn't making a fashion statement, just chose my outfit in a hurry during the hours of early morning semi-darkness. It appears that 8 Watt energy-saving light bulbs aren't much help when there's virtually no light coming in through the windows.
Yes, my colleagues noticed - all except Gina, who claimed she was colourblind (but I suspect she was just too kind to laugh). It was impossible to miss really. If you place black and navy side-by-side under fluorescent lights, you'll know what I mean.
I also had a massive toe hole on my ladder-resist tights. I guess the packet didn't make any claims regarding toe holes, just ladders.
At least I had matching shoes on, both in excellent condition (no visible scuffs, heels attached etc.).
I kept the jacket off and shoes on all day long, and thanked my lucky stars that those were the only mishaps of Day 3 in the office.
Day 4 went without a hitch. Maybe, hopefully, I'm getting the knack of it.

I was going to ask if you somehow managed to wear brown shoes with this, but you covered that.
Glad it gets better though :D
Only because I don't wear flats and it's kind of hard to leave the house wearing shoes with different height heels - although who knows, the day may still come!
Hahaha, says the girl who did end up wearing odd shoes round work once! Back in the days when I used to temp and walk to work (in trainers) I just grabbed the first left and right shoes I found one morning, got to work, put them on and wondered why I was lopsided! Thankfully they were both black and I don't think anyone noticed.
And the other day I spent a meeting holding my notebook over my knee as I had a HUGE hole in my tights - had to do a quick runner to Boots after the meeting :)
Tell me you didn't have a bad hair day as well :( Oh, you will get back into the swing of it...
I've done the mismatched shoes (probably the most work I ever accomplished in a single day, just because I didn't want to leave my desk), but never mix-and-match suit pieces.
We are meant to be friends, you know. Remember my falling over in the street, pinned to the ground by Bubba's base? I have an actual scar on my ankle from that incident. Maybe the new rating scale for our embarrassing incidents should be Did it leave a scar?
@ Loops: Hahaha x2! This is exactly the reason why 1/I've given up on skirt suits and 2/I keep my work shoes in the office, so I always change into a pair that matches :-)
@ Sandi: Nope, my hair and make up were looking good, if I say so myself.
@ Karen: I do remember the incident with the base, but I didn't realise it'd left a scar!! Most of my scars come from burns or cuts. When I visit my parents I'm not allowed near knives - the first person to spot me holding one, glabs it from my hands and shoos me away :-D
Aaaah, yet another reason to like you. :-)
I like you too, you know that :-)
Sadly I'm hotdesking and don't really have anywhere I can leave my shoes overnight. It's bad enough getting somewhere safe in work to leave my laptop for the odd night.
Skirts are so much more convenient to wear than trousers. Matching trouser length with heel height is just annoying.
I once went to work not only wearing a new pullover top inside out, but also with its price tag dangling from the right armpit. Really nice look. A passenger on a crowded train loudly pointed out my fashion faux pas while I was in the aisle, strap-hanging.
P.S. I like your blog, Tinsie. Stumbled upon it accidentally. Your photos are wonderful.
@ Loops: One of the reasons I hate hotdesking is that there's nowhere for your personal things (namely shoes, make up and medication).
You don't have to worry about your trouser length and heel height matching if all your trousers are the same length and all your heels more or less the same height ;-)
The thing that puts me off skirts is having to wear tights. I hate tights with a passion.
@ Katie: Thank you for visiting & commenting :-)
Similar thing happened to a colleague of mine - Claire, is that you??? Hehe.
I totally agree on the hot desking front, however I have no option. I've requested a pedestal so fingers crossed I'll have somewhere to leave some stuff, even if I still don't have my own desk.
I have different height heels as it's healthier to change your heel height throughout the week than wear 1 height all the time.
I don't see why that would be true. Unless you also wear your work shoes at home and at weekends?
