Where: Trafalgar Square, London
What: Londoners and tourists (those that were brave enough to sit around in the sub-summer temperatures) watching the coverage from the Beijing Olympics live on a giant screen.
The stands, lights, cordons etc. are in place for the Trafalgar Square Festival taking place at the end of each week during the Olympics, although I didn't see any performances while I was there.

This the first time I am not interested in the Olympic Games. I guess because neither of the countries I am supporting is doing very well thsi year. Plus it pisses me off that the Chinese authorities keep censoring the journalists who are covering the demonstrations in Beijing. If you don't want the coverage then you shouldn't be hosting the Games.
It's not the winning that counts, it's the taking part ;-)
As for China, they didn't take the Olympics, they were given them. It's not really fair to blame China for all the things we don't like, as if they're the baddies who destroyed our noble Olympics. After all, you could have similar objections about Greece: if you can't keep your top athletes off drugs, you shouldn't be hosting the Games.
Similar arguments, I'm sure, can be made about every other country/city that ever hosted the Games, depending on which side of the fence you're sitting on. I guess the bottom line is that no-one's perfect (and I'm sure the ancient Olympics weren't perfect either).
I don't blame China if my country isn't doing well.And believe me there have been huge problems wherever the Olympics have been held but I do think it is not right to restrict or even abuse journalists who are doing their jobs. It would have been unrealistic of them to believe that there wouldn't have been demonstrations at a time like this. If you make a bid to take on the Olympics then issues like human rights and Tibet are certainly going to be in the limelight.Either make the effort to rectify or accept the fact that people are going to show their disappoval.
