Yey! It's Friday!

This has been the longest week ever, despite (or perhaps because of) Monday being a bank holiday, i.e. a holiday for everyone except the poor sods who work in shops and public transport. In theory, this week should have felt nice and short, after all there were only four days in it. Instead, it has felt like it's dragged on for ever! Maybe it's the weather, as it's been pretty miserable all week long (including the long weekend - what a waste), or perhaps it's the fact that I've had too many late nights over the weekend and wasn't able to get into my normal sleeping patterns during the week. Going to bed at 2 and 3 AM is fine if you can wake up at 10 AM the next day, but not so fun if you have to be at work by 9. Ho hum.

Or perhaps time expands to what we're used to - it may be a four-day week but it feels like a five-day week because that's what we usually get. Only because we know it's a short week, we keep thinking it must be finishing soon, which makes it appear even longer.

I've been thinking "it must be Friday" since Wednesday, and so it feels like Friday has taken far too long to arrive. But today it really is Friday and the weather forecast for the (normal-sized) weekend ahead is "cloudy with sunny intervals" so at least it won't be wet, so it's yeyyyyyyy time!

I can't wait for some hard earned rest ;-)

Roll on the weekend and a bit of R & R :) On the plus side, I just booked my holiday to Italy (Rimini) at the end of June-yipppeeee... see ya soon!

I hope you get the nice weather AND the rest! This week has been brutal on this side of the ocean, too. No rest for the weary and all that..

Hi Tinsie! Just a speedy visit to say hello! I’ve been busy the whole last week (no holiday here...) and will be out in the next, so this is far less than your blog deserves… ;(( But I promise I’ll come back with more time after June 10th, at least…
However, to avoid leaving you empty hands, I published a last post on Marrakesh 2006 at Blogtrotter. ;))
Enjoy!

I may have already told you this, but it seems to me you have plenty of bank holidays in the UK! I've been trying to contact British companies (a task related to my job) and it seems like every time I call, either it's a bank holiday or people are extending their vacations after a bank holiday.

However, I always read in the press how the Brits work so much (almost as much as Americans) and don't even take the time off that they have coming to them.

What do you think?

@ Suz: Rimini sounds fab :-) Can I come with you?

@ Karen: I got up at 8 AM, had breakfast, went back to bed with a book, nodded off and woke up at 1 PM, so rest is definitely happening. Not so sure about the weather, it looked like it was going to rain at one point, but it's brightened up since. Mind you, I'm only going by the colour of the clouds (light grey vs. dark grey) as we've not seen the sun yet!

@ Jenn & Emperor Ropi: Thank you both. I'm certainly doing my best to get as much rest as I can :-)

@ GMG: Thanks for popping in, I do appreciate it :-)

@ Mandi: You probably need a good rest too by now!

@ Betty: We don't work as *long* as Americans, but we work harder and longer than other (most) Europeans. We only have 8 bank holidays (2 at Xmas, 1 at New Year, 2 at Easter, 2 in May, 1 in August) and most of them fall on a Monday so they're straightforward 3 day breaks - no "ponts" for us, except at Christmas - which is the only time companies practically close down as everyone's off at the same time.

May is a popular month for holidays, partly because of the two bank holidays, partly because the weather is beautiful all over Europe and not too hot around the Med. Also there's usually a half term (school) holiday in May so people who have kids may take a week off at that time, and people who don't have kids will take time off either side of the people who have kids, so if you're in contact with different people, there will always be someone who's on holiday in May.

We're usually all here in August though :-)
