What a scorcher!

If you're wondering about the lack of recent posts, I'm blaming it on the weather! For the last 10 days or so, summer has put in an early appearance and we have been spending every possible minute outdoors enjoying the sunshine and warmth. After last year's washout (coolest UK summer since 1998 and wettest since 1914!!) we are taking no chances - every sunny, dry day is taken advantage of. Parks and open spaces are packed with people enjoying the sunshine, pub gardens are full to the brim with punters in short sleeves and red faces (also known as the lobster tan) and restaurants offering al fresco dining are proving extremely popular of a sudden. Last weekend was glorious, particularly Sunday which, at 26C, was the hottest day of the year so far - warmer than Madrid, Athens, Corfu and even Marrakesh.

It was slightly cooler today, but still sunny and pleasant, so I met up with a friend and we had lunch by the river. I took these photos while we were waiting for our cheese burgers and chips. Not a bad view, huh?

Your beautiful weather made the Prattville, AL news this morning! So glad you're enjoying it!

The pictures are lovely. I remember that bullet shaped building in the background from my trip to London.

Our weather here has not been hot yet which is very strange. It is usually so hot and humid here. Makes me wonder if we will have a really bad summer!

@ Karen: You're joking! We're in the news? I guess we're newsworthy, seeing as it's so much warmer and bringhter than it usually is at this time of year :-)

I keep thinking about the tourists who are in London at the moment, they must be soooo surprised with the weather and probably totally unprepared in terms of clothes etc.

@ Susan Mo: Hehe the bullet shaped building is quite distinctive, isn't it? We call it the gherkin.

If you look carefully you can also make out the Millenium Bridge, the footbridge that links Tate Modern and St Paul's Cathedral.

I'm sure your summer will be just fine. Last year we had a glorious April and fairly warm May but our summer was a total washout. You just can't tell.

@ Shionge: Thank you. It's been a pleasure sharing it with you :-)

Good to hear that you're enjoying spring. Stockholm had 26C last weekend also. Tonight we're back at 7C. Order has been restored! ;)

Same here. We're down to 14C this morning :-(

Summer's been postponed (but it was nice while it lasted)!

Hi Tinsie! Here I am for the weekly visit… ;)
Amazing what's happening with the weather; we still have some rain around here for the last ten days, though with sunny breaks. Incredible week! Nice view of the Gherkin, NatWest and the Wobbly Bridge...
Now, Tripadvisor. You said «modern-day tourists»? Please forget about it; those results could only come from a sample of the tourists on the more than three thousand «clients» cruise ships in the Caribbean... It simply doesn't make any sense, though Milford Sound is quite nice... (Believe me; from those 25 the only one I've not been to is Hamilton, Bermuda) ;)))
Thanks for your comment on Blogtrotter, which has now landed in the imperial town of Marrakesh, the Red City!
Hope you enjoy and have a great weekend!

Thank you for your comments, GMG. Glad you liked the photos :-)

As for the Tripadvisor research, I think you have a point there. I'm certainly not rushing out and booking a cruise around the Caribbean on the basis of Tripadvisor's recommendations...
